The Asian Bankers Association has the pleasure to announce the appointment of Mr. Tetsuro Imaeda as the new representative of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) to the ABA Board of Directors.

Mr. Tetsuro Imaeda is a banker with more than 36 years of professional experience nationally and internationally in this prominent Japanese banking institution. Just recently, on April 2022, Mr. Imaeda was appointed Senior Managing Executive Officer, Co-Head of Global Banking Unit (Head Office Departments (Global Banking Unit), The Asia Pacific Division, East Asia Division at SMBC; as well as Senior Managing Executive Officer, Co-Head of Global Business Unit (Head Office Departments (Global Business Unit), Asia Pacific Division, East Asia Division) at SMFG.

Mr. Imaeda started his career at The Sumitomo Bank, Ltd. in 1986 and gradually climbed through the ranks achieving his first prominent assignment in 2009 as General Manager in the Corporate Banking Department, Americas Division of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.

By 2014, Mr. Imaeda was working in Singapore as Executive Officer and General Manager of the Singapore branch and in 2016 he was appointed Managing Executive Officer and Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa Division; and CEO of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited.

One year later, in 2017 Mr. Imaeda took the position of Managing Executive Officer and Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa Division, SMBC; CEO of SMBC Europe Limited; and Managing Executive Officer and Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa Division at the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. (SMFG) until 2019, which also included the responsibility of being the General Manager of the SMBC London branch in 2018.

Then in April 2020, Mr. Imaeda was further promoted as Senior Managing Executive Officer and Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa Division, SMBC; CEO of SMBC Europe Limited; and Senior Managing Executive Officer and Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa Division at the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. (SMFG).

Just one month later in May 2020, he was also appointed Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer, Compliance Department at SMBC; and Senior Managing Executive Officer at the Group CCO Compliance Department at SMFG where he worked for two more years until he was appointed to his current position in April 2022.

Mr. Tetsuro Imaeda graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1986 with a Bachelor of Law.
