Mr. Shosuke Mori

Mr. Mori joined The Sumitomo Bank, Ltd. (a predecessor bank of SMBC) in 1983. After spending a number of years at Umeda-shinmichi Branch in Osaka, he was seconded in 1987 to Economic Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he was engaged in Japanˇ¦s overseas economic development assistance efforts.
In 1989, he returned to the Bank and was assigned to Economics Department. After a stint as International Visiting Fellow at American Enterprise Institute in Washington DC, he was transferred to New York in 1992.
During his career in the U.S., he mainly conducted research and analysis of U.S. financial regulations and political matters.
One year after returning to Tokyo in 1996, Mr. Mori was transferred to Corporate Planning Department where he was engaged in developing the Bankˇ¦s management plans and overseeing regulatory matters. He was promoted to General Manager in 2003. He was also appointed General Manager, Office of Japanese Bankers Association in 2004 for a one year term.
Starting in 2005, Mr. Mori was General Manager of a number of Corporate Banking Offices in Tokyo, developing client relationships with small and medium-sized corporations.

In 2010, Mr. Mori was appointed as Regional Chief Executive & General Manager of Hong Kong Branch.
In his role as Regional Chief Executive, he maintained relationship with financial regulators as well as major non-Japanese corporate clients and financial institutions. As General Manager, he actively oversaw the planning and promotion of business with Japanese corporate clients in the region including Taiwan and the Philippines, in addition to managing the overall operation of the branch.

In 2011, after his successful assignment in Hong Kong, Mr. Mori was appointed as Director and General Manager of Tokyo Corporate Banking Department I which covers top-tier TSE-listed corporations.

In 2013, Mr. Mori assumed a new position as Director and General Manager of Planning Department, International Banking Unit, and he was promoted to Managing Director in April 2014.

In April 2015, Mr. Mori was appointed as Head of the combined Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets Business Divisions.

In April 2017, Mr. Mori assumed his current position as Senior Managing Executive Officer, Deputy Head of International Business Unit, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Senior Managing Executive Officer, Deputy Head of International Banking Unit, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.

Born in Shiga Prefecture, Japan in 1959, Mr. Mori holds a B.A. in law from Kyoto University.
He is married, with two children. He enjoys playing golf and traveling during his free time.
